School of Maths & Stats - Building Alternations

Project Overview:

The project involved both internal & external refurbishments to the School of Mathematics & Statistics modular building. The purpose of the works was to accommodate additional staff and PGR students. 

The refurbishments and upgrades to the existing modular building were largely internal, with existing spaces being reconfigured to provide the improved facilities required.

Internal Works:

• Space reconfiguration
• Administrative function relocated to provide an improved entrance / reception area
• Upgraded furniture Elements in the Level 1 ‘Maths Hub’ and ‘PGR’ spaces.
• Creating a collaborative ‘Student Hub’ and ‘PGR’ space on the ground floor.
• On Level 2 the capacity for PGR students has been increased by nearly 40%
• Additional staff areas have also been created 
• Levels 3 and 4 have some minor interventions to make use of existing oversized lobbies, to create staff offices.

Due to the buildings prominent location on University Place directly next to the new Western Campus square, careful consideration was given to external enhancements. 

External Works:

• Installation of an external vinyl wrap with equations on to the building’s exterior – causing an extremely eye-catching addition to this popular building.
• New building signage
• Improved front & rear entrance areas
• Upgrades to the hard landscaping created additional space for staff and PGR students.

• Extensive modern refurbishment to provide a facility capable of supporting quality research work

• Improve teaching facilities and resources for staff
• Improved environment for conducting research enabling greater interaction between researchers and staff
• Reduce carbon emissions with more efficient building layout resulting in higher utilisation rate.  ​
